Removing and replacing a top to do proper crack repairs is a very costly repair. It's a 2 man job, but I have the help and expertise of friend and mentor Jeff Thomson when I need it. I would need to see the instrument to make an estimate, but before you panic, I've succeded in some cases with a "String Cleat" repair.
Although it's not as reliable as a traditional repair, it's an affordable option that's worked for me and my customers a number of times. I've been able to make instruments playable again in situations where the cost of removing the top to do a traditional repair exceeded the value of the instrument.
